Kate is a New Zealand fine artist from Hawkes Bay and has been painting since 1999. Her work is held in private collections throughout New Zealand, Europe, Australia and America.
Her recent collection of oil on plywood is inspired by Aotearoa, which illustrates the strength and fragility of the people and buildings etched into its history. Kate likes to explore the fine line between reality and surrealism, with subtle reference to political and social issues. “As an artist it is a true privilege to have a voice in my community”.

Kate MacKenzie became the Supreme World Of Wearable Arts Award Winner in 2014 with her entry design “Poly Nation”.  In 2013 she entered for the first time and came 3rd in the Open section with “Hay Daysie”.

Kate gained early success into her career in 2000 and 2001, becoming a finalist with 3 works in the National Telecom Art Awards, and in 2002 was chosen as feature Artist for the “Hawkes Bay Vintners Charity Wine Auction with her painting entitled “The Naked Bidder”. That same year she was  commissioned to paint a collection of work to be hung in the reception area of the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor in Wellington, and subsequent public art commissions have followed including the Hawkes Bay Opera House.

In recent years Kate’s work has been selected for Hawkes Bay Review and  EAST Exhibition. Today she continues to develop her work in the fine arts and enjoys creating garments each year for the International World of Wearable Arts in Wellington.
